Let’s Learn All About Schools in Brooklyn!

Do you have a young child and are you headed to Brooklyn? Would you like to learn more about your school options in both the public and private systems? We will discuss ways to. determine best-fit schools for your young children and highlight schools in the borough.
Topics will include:
- How to decide on a best fit early childhood and elementary school program
- How can you tell if a public school is a “good school”?
- Recommendations of schools to research further
- Ways to navigate school admissions
Mary Miele will host an Evolved School Placement Consultant Bentley Kapten.
For the past decade, Bentley has honed his abilities to set measurable goals, oversee systems, and lead teams by building relationships with families & community stakeholders to positively impact educational outcomes for students. Most recently, he was the STEM Program Manager at ExpandED Schools where he leads the development of a hands-on engineering-based curriculum for students in grades K-8. In addition, he coached teachers and site directors on STEM implementation in the after school space for 30 district schools throughout the city. His knowledge is guided by his experience in the classroom as an elementary school teacher at Uncommon Schools and Harlem Village Academy. Additionally, he was an instructional coach and Academic Dean at Teach For America and Harlem RBI. In 2017 Bentley Co-founded STEM to the Future, a non-profit organization that uses STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) to liberate the minds of students ages 4-11 through a project-based learning lens. Currently, he utilizes his skills and knowledge of the NYC school system to consult and advise families through tutoring, school placement for Pre-Nursery to High School with Evolved Education. Bentley is also an alumnus of the Foster America Fellowship program and currently lives in Brooklyn with his wife.
