5th Grade Readiness

Heading into the new school year, parents can support their child’s readiness for the upcoming grade in a multitude of ways. We will discuss ways to set your child up for success in Fifth Grade according to academics, learning, social-emotional-and physical development.
Topics will include:
What your child should know going into Fifth Grade
Skills to practice and reinforce with your child prior to the start of the year
Tools to support your child’s learning throughout the summer and into the school year
Ways to continue supporting your child once the school year begins
Mary Miele will host Evolved Educator, Meredith Godsall
Meredith Godsall is a certified special education teacher in New York City. She holds a Master’s degree in General and Special Education Grades 1-6. She has been an educator for the past 10 years, in Minnesota, Chicago, and New York City. She has taught 3rd grade. Currently, she is a 5th-grade teacher at PS 197 in Manhattan. She has previously worked with students PreK-2 in public, private, and charter school settings. As a test prep teacher, she has worked with students from Pre-K-12, on NY State Tests, SHSAT, TACHS, ISEE, SSAT, SAT, ACT, and G&T. Her extensive background and training in English Language Arts allow her to utilize a variety of teaching methods in order to create custom plans and educational tools tailored to each student with the express goal of achieving excellence.
Her students have made great leaps in their subjects by moving forward in their academic mastery, increasing their test scores, and overall confidence. Notably, this past fall one of her students increased her verbal ISEE from a 54 to a 97. Additionally, her state test prep students have consistently received 4s in both ELA and Math. Meredith’s test prep students have been accepted at schools such as Bronx Science, Eleanor Roosevelt, Dalton, Riverdale,
