Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes EEC different from a large tutoring company such as Kaplan?
We customize our programs to meet the individual needs of each student whereas large companies use a cookie-cutter approach to education in general and tutoring in particular. We work with students according to their individual needs and learning style and differentiate lessons. No two students have the same program, even in our small groups we are sure to differentiate. Large companies are unable to accommodate individual needs. Read our entire mission statement here.
Do you offer test preparation?
Do you offer scholarships?
We are unable to offer financial assistance at this time.
Do you work with schools?
Yes, we do! We work with charter, public and private schools. We also work with after school programs and sport programs. To request a proposal, please email us.
How much is private tutoring?
Private one-to-one tutoring begins at $150 per hour. Other rates vary according to need and group size.
What will we discuss during our phone consultation?
During our phone consultation we will address all of your questions and concerns about how we can partner with your family.
What materials do you use?
We use a variety of published materials. Our paradigm is explained in our book Supporting School: A Guidebook for Parents and Educators. Our tutors use shared in-house teaching materials as well as a variety of published materials. Our educators have access to any resource needed to work effectively with each student. These materials are sometimes included in the cost of your tutoring program, and other times they are an additional fee, which clients approve prior to purchase.
Do you offer group classes?
Yes, we do offer group classes for ELA, NYS Math, Upper Level ISEE and Upper Level SSAT, as well as SHSAT tests.
We can customize a group class for students who wish to improve reading, writing or math. Group fees are 80/student/hour for a group of 2, 75/student/hour for a group of 3 and 70/student/per hour for a group of 4. Inquire here to set up a group class.
I signed up for a group class; how many students will be in the class?
Classes have a minimum of 5-6 students and have a maximum of 15 students. There are also two teachers in each class to provide students with more individualized attention.
Where are you located?
Our headquarters is on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, but our services are available worldwide. Educators come to your home or school to work with your child. We also offer remote tutoring and consulting.
What qualifications do your tutors have?
All of our tutors are educators. They have experience teaching in classrooms and many have specializations such as reading specialists or math specialists. Some are college level instructors.
What is your refund policy?
We do not offer refunds for services.
How will I be billed?
We bill monthly using our Intuit Quickbooks System. Our clients receive monthly invoices and pay directly on the site using a credit or debit card. We ask that payments are made within 10 days of the invoice.
How will I know if my child is progressing?
We send email reports after each session or at the end of each week to outline progress.
What is the SEPAQ and do I have to complete it?
The SEPAQ is an inventory which allows parents and educators to understand a student’s social, emotional and physical functioning. It provides information which can help us uncover a student’s learning potential.
